Futurists also state that AI could end up misused in several other ways such as: Social control and manipulation of the masses via propaganda and false ideologies. The emergence of bots that can create fake news and disseminate them to modify public opinion.



Government militaries worldwide already have access to various AI-controlled or semi-AI-controlled weapon systems, like military drones. With facial recognition software, a drone can track an individual.

  • v. Other Operational Tactics. a. Surveillance

    • This is being done with many various forms of cyberattacks being automated. This means thousands of attacks are launched relentlessly through AI. Cybercriminals also use AI to run their own research and find loopholes in enterprises.
    • Cybercriminals can also use AI to scan through huge tracts of data quickly and find Personally Identifiable Information (PII) which can be a major cybersecurity risk.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF AI MISUSE

Any misuse of artificial intelligence systems can potentially cause disruptions and unprecedented results. The most obvious threat that AI could cause is in its weaponization. Automating defense architecture has the potential risk of causing destruction on a wide scale and not easily reversible. The military applications of AI such as autonomous weaponry can result in a completely different and more destructive form of warfare. 

  • Social control and manipulation of the masses via propaganda and false ideologies
  • The emergence of bots that can create fake news and disseminate them to modify public opinion
  • Cybercriminals can utilize AI to launch attacks on critical infrastructures of the economy like banks, telecommunications, utilities etc.
  • Big corporations can mine in personal data of users using AI powered strategies for the sake of monetization.
